Ellen Nickerson is currently Head of Teaching and Learning at AVID Center, where she leads a team of dedicated professionals in the innovative creation and development of AVID’s diverse range of products and services. Her tenure at AVID, which extends over a period of 15 years, has seen her assume a variety of integral roles. These include directing the strategies, products, policies, and implementation associated with the organization’s direction and impact of AVID Schoolwide, as well as providing support to schools and districts in their AVID implementation through comprehensive coaching and training across nine Northeast states.
Before joining AVID, Ellen had a distinguished career as a public educator in New Jersey. Her diverse experiences encompass teaching elementary, secondary, and special education. She has also led school reform initiatives for districts as a whole school reform facilitator. Her multifaceted expertise extends to grant writing, academic coaching, teaching in-district university courses to education majors, and mentoring. Ellen has also made significant contributions to curriculum writing, has chaired leadership committees, and was part of a leadership team that led a middle school to be the first AVID National Demonstration School in the Northeast.
Her professional journey reflects her commitment to educational excellence and her dedication to fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.
Ellen received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Rutgers University and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Scranton.
