In March 2023, Allen was appointed as Vice President, Eastern Region of the US which represents states on the East coast from Maine to Florida plus the Department of Defense Schools worldwide. The Eastern Region has the pleasure of supporting approximately 1800 AVID schools. Allen joined AVID in January 2015 as State Director of North and South Carolina and transitioned into the role of Associate Senior Region Director for Eastern Region in January 2019 followed by Interim Senior Director in May 2022.

A native of North Carolina, Allen has devoted over 30 years to education.  He has proudly served in four school systems across North Carolina including positions of teacher/counselor, assistant principal, principal at the high school level and middle school, assistant superintendent and superintendent.

Allen’s leadership in education has been recognized across North Carolina. Examples include serving as President of North Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and recipient of the North Carolina Outstanding Administrator in Gifted Education Award.

Allen believes in the power of servant leadership. During his principalship at the middle school level, Allen recognized the need for students to have access to advanced courses and support.  He worked with the teacher leaders at the school and created a “Back on Track” program for retained 7th grade students. The students were provided “curriculum compacting” with the Advanced Intellectually Gifted Teacher for the year. The scholars passed the 7th and 8th grade end of grade tests and earned promotion to 8th-grade mid-year and to ninth grade the beginning of the next year with their peers. After commitment, perseverance and support, these students were “back on track” as 9th graders.

As a proud Alumnus of East Carolina University, Allen earned his BS Degree in Education, Master of Arts Degree in Education and Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration. Allen also earned his North Carolina Principal and Superintendent licenses at his alma mater.

His proudest accomplishments are earning the privilege of being a husband, father and now a grandfather.
