AVID Summer Events Health and Safety

AVID Center prioritizes the health and safety of all participants, guests, and employees.

We encourage all participants to review the:

  • Policies of your school district or employer.
  • CDC’s information on preventing getting sick, including the recommendations on booster shots to be up-to-date on your vaccinations. An up-to-date vaccination status allows you maximum flexibility in terms of quarantine and isolation in the event of an exposure to COVID-19.
  • Expectations of any of the hotels, convention centers, and cities you will be visiting.

We suggest that participants bring masks and rapid tests with them.

During our summer professional learning events:

  • If you need immediate medical attention for any reason, please call 911.
  • If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, we ask that you isolate and take a test. There is often lag time between symptoms and testing positive, so if you are feeling ill, we request that you wear a mask indoors—even if you had a negative rapid test.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19 during an AVID Summer Event, please isolate and complete the COVID Positive Test Result Reporting Form so we can notify anyone who might have been exposed and minimize the risk for other participants. We also encourage you to follow CDC guidelines on the CDC Quarantine and Isolation Calculator. You may contact AVID Care with any additional questions.

If you learn that you have been exposed to COVID-19, please visit the CDC Quarantine and Isolation Calculator for recommended safety measures. To protect yourself and others attending the Summer Institute, we recommend that you wear a mask indoors.

For more information, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 page.

As a precaution, we recommend that our participants turn on COVID-19 Exposure Notifications.
Below are directions for iOS and Android Systems.

Use the COVID-19 Exposure Notifications System on Your Android Phone

To help understand whether you've been exposed to someone who reports having COVID-19, you can turn on Exposure Notifications. You can turn the notifications off at any time.

To use the system, you need to either download an official app from your region’s government public health authority or, if supported in your region, enable it directly in your device Settings.

  • If you have COVID-19, you may share that info in Exposure Notifications to help alert the people you've been in contact with.
  • If you've been exposed to someone who has shared that they have COVID-19, you may be notified and provided with further instructions.
