Biography

Jonathan Brown, AVID’s Community Engagement Manager, is a former high school AVID student from Killeen Independent School District. He has served as an AVID student, tutor, and one of the first AVID instructors in higher education. While in college, Jonathan traveled across the United States as a motivational speaker, sharing his AVID student experience and how it opened doors of opportunity for his future. He worked with the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 2009 to develop an AVID First-Year Seminar, teaching students how to navigate college and develop critical thinking skills. Jonathan used his AVID experience as a teaching assistant to help students and instructors implement the AVID strategies he used. Jonathan later became the university’s AVID Liaison before joining AVID Center. As an esteemed higher education instructor, Jonathan firmly believes that cultivating positive student relationships accelerates learning and fosters greater student accountability in their educational journey.

“You are not every day, regular, average people. You are the innovators, creators, and discoverers of the future, taking ownership of that now is the key to your success.”
